Let's Talk About ADHD

You know that one child in your classroom that can never sit still or that one family member that can never seem to complete a story? Well you may like to know that those are very common symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, otherwise known as ADHD.

ADHD is most often diagnosed in childhood and may last well into adulthood. Yes, adults can suffer from ADHD too! ask yourself are you just thinking food during lectures because they are "boring" or because you simply can't seem to concentrate. Children with this disorder either struggle with keeping still for long periods, paying attention or taking turns.

Hey! Focus! I said FOCUS!

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood and although no systematic reviews have been conducted to estimate the average number of children and adolescents that have ADHD in Africa, but it is estimated that about 2.2 to 17.8% of children school-aged children suffer from ADHD (Ayano, Yohannes & Abraha, 2020).

Surprise, Surprise.

Study shows that boys are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than girls, due to how differently it presents itself. Research also shows that a higher number of girls suffer from ADHD than generally accounted for.

Now that all that fun stuff is done...cough cough

Let's talk symptoms but seeing as you've made it thus far, you might be just fine....MIGHT

ADHD typically presents itself in the early years but it may be hard to diagnose because the symptoms sometimes come across as normal behavior for that age group. It also present itself different within the genders. While, females tend to exhibit inattentive symptoms, males generally exhibit a combination of hyperactive and inattentive symptoms.

That explains why I could never complete assigned readings...

Welp! That's about it folks! For now....
